History
The year 1976 the company was moved from Eibar to his current location in MALLABIA, also in the north of Spain. The year 1991, this family owned company was bought by the BBA group. It became part of a multinational and the name was changed to AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS (IBERICA), S.A. This is the still the name of the company. The year 1992, once certified the designs and manufacturing processes by the BBA group engineering, started to sell his clutches with the brand AP BORG & BECK. The same year 1992 started with the distribution in Spain of the AP LOCKHEED brakes. The year 1993 started the manufacturing in AP IBERICA of the first ever original equipment clutch for passenger cars, the NISSAN VANETTE. Previously we were manufacturing only for aftermarket and original equipment for tractors, dumpers and forklifts. The year 1996 was obtained the ISO 9001 standard certification for our quality system. The same year 1996, BBA sold to another multinational, all his automotive companies. Among them was included AP IBERICA and was created the AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS GROUP. Included in this group there were two more companies manufacturing clutches for the automotive industry, AP UK and AP ITALIA. The year 1997 there was a critical change in our strategy and by mid of the same year we started with The year 2000 was got a new certification to our quality system according the automotive standard QS-9000. The same year 2000, the AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS GROUP sold all the distribution business, both for clutches as for brakes to DELPHI. The well-known BORG & BECK brand became also property of DELPHI. During the first quarter of the year 2001, DELPHI started selling clutches in Spain. AP IBERICA was allowed only to sell clutches to DELPHI, to the original equipment business and the USA market. All other markets were closed. The year 2002, the AUTOMOTIVE PRODCTS GROUP sold two of his three companies manufacturing clutches, AP UK and AP IBERICA to a group of American investors and was created the DRIVELINE HOLDING. At the end of the year 2005, no having reached the expected sales, DELPHI went out of the clutches business in the whole world. They keep, even they are not using it, the BORG & BECK brand. The year 2006, with a MBO (Management Buy Out) process, the management team of the company bought the 100% of the AP IBERICA shares. After so many years, AP IBERICA goes back to be a completely independent company, no belonging to any group of companies, national or international. Small but without decisions taken too far away. |
